Michelle Udem

What called you to volunteer with PDXWIT?

I started volunteering with PDXWIT after PDXWIT matched me with an amazing mentor, Cassie! I had just started my career in tech and PDXWIT felt like a safe space for me to connect with other minorities in tech in a welcoming, community environment. After a very positive experience with my mentor, I wanted to help grow PDXWIT as a volunteer supporting the Job Board.

What is your day job and/or another passion of yours (besides PDXWIT)?

I am currently working in Digital Innovations at Nike as a Program Manager. I support and manage a team of innovators producing digital capabilities and solutions to help the organization achieve sustainability and performance goals.

What has been your favorite PDXWIT project, initiative, or event you have participated in as a volunteer? Why?

I’m on the Job Board Team so I may be biased, but I love attending and volunteering for the Get Hired Up! event. It’s a super interactive and high energy way to meet a diverse group of people. I’ve only attended the event virtually, yet our Director of Technology, Ilana, expertly manages to create a warm, friendly space for recruiters and job seekers to connect.

What is something people may not know or expect about you?

Outside of working full time and volunteering for PDXWIT, I am also in a graduate program at PSU working towards a MBA. During my first year of the program, I co-founded a club with my fellow cohort members, Women of Color in Business. I encourage any PSU students reading this to look out for our upcoming events :)
