In our aim to be an organization that supports and empowers women, non-binary folks and people of color, we want to address racism head on. One way that racism can be expressed is through lack of recognition of indigenous lands and erasure of indigenous history. We are moving towards incorporating land acknowledgement into the introduction at all of our events and will be dedicating our June happy hour to providing some additional context on how we will be doing this.
While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 p.m. to share important announcements and showcase members of our community:
A representative from our host company Green Bits will share what they do and what job opportunities are available at the company.
We will be joined by Court Morse who will share information about Portland’s indigenous lands and history.
During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:
An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.
A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected.
4:30 p.m. - Doors open
5:30 p.m. - Introductions, Announcements + Lightening Speakers
6:30 p.m. - Event ends
Our events are inclusive. ALL people who support our purpose are welcome.
Meet Temperance Delonkcra
What is your title and your favorite thing about your job?
I’m a Quality Assurance Analyst II, and I work primarily with the back office website for Green Bits. My favorite thing about my job is all of the different tools I get to learn and utilize for my testing. Plus, I get to break things. My whole job is to find errors and defects before they reach the hands of our customers.
How did you become involved in PDXWIT?
I moved to town recently, so this will be my first PDXWIT happy hour. I’m really excited to meet folks and look forward to future events.
What do you like to do for fun in Portland?
My family and I moved just in time for winter, so we haven’t explored much - but we’ve found some great parks to take my son to on a nice day.
Where can we find you on a Saturday night?
We’re on the lookout for speakers
Do you have a unique story to tell? Do you have a specific skill set you’d like to share with our community? We’re always looking for speakers to share their knowledge at an upcoming PDXWIT event. Learn more about our current speaking opportunities.
Do you want to host an event?
Is your company interested in hosting a PDXWIT event? This is a great opportunity to gain powerful exposure to the local workforce while showing your support for inclusion in Portland’s technology industry.
